16 Old Bailey
In the City of London, just a short stroll across the road from the Old Bailey criminal court resides Orms architects transformation of the Grade II listed building at 16 Old Bailey. The project involved the restoration of Britannia House and the 1990’s extension adjoining it, where 92% of the existing structure was retained. Increasing the floorspace to 115,000 sq ft and achieving a BREEAM Excellent accreditation 16 Old Bailey offers a high quality, healthy, modern workspace.
Orms commissioned me to undertake the architectural and interior photography of 16 Old Bailey in 2021 upon its completion. Entering the building through the main reception you are arrive in an elegant double-height space designed to befit the surrounding Grade II listed Edwardian baroque façade. The architectural and furnishing details within are of the highest quality, with light grey terrazzo and brass detailing covering the floor, and Portland stone on the upper levels. Seating and informal meeting spaces with oak joinery and soft upholstery are positioned throughout the reception creating a space reminiscent of a hotel lobby. A landscape terrace, receding over 3 levels sits atop the building offering stunning views towards St Paul’s and beyond. The architectural photography below aims to capture all of these aspects showing the wonderful transformation created by Orms.
